Restarting my Gamedev hobby | Joe-Mancer Devlog #1
Hello Again World.
I'm Sketch, I work as an art director in an advertising agency and I want to revive my game dev hobby.
Like most of us here in Itch, I love video games and I sincerely believe it's one of the greatest forms of modern-day art. And though this isn't my first rodeo with game development, this time I want to make a dent in my backlog of game ideas.
However, I want to start something small. Something that will teach me the basics without taking a year for me to release a beta.
So here's my first attempt at making a game (after a decade of adulting).
This is Joemancer, a simple shooting game about a necromancer who accidentally summoned eldritch creatures to his hut while trying to revive his dead cat.
So far, I've managed to get a few things in like a basic shooting system and the basics of enemy behavior which I plan to expand the more I put the bricks of the games. I'm working on a few art assets at the moment so I can stop using the Final Fantasy Black mage as a main character. I've also made different kinds of spell types for people to shoot with so it's not just a simple click-and-shoot game. Ideally, it can be the form of skill expression to weave different spells to use against different types of enemies.
I've been stuck in tutorial hell for a while now but I think working on a game and just solving everything one step at a time is making the development process more fun for me.
But yeah, wish me luck.
